Philadelphia Phillies demote young shortstop Tyler Spangler

The Philadelphia Phillies have demoted 18-year-old shortstop Tyler Spangler. Spangler, who was selected with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, is being moved from Single-A Clearwater to the Florida Complex League Phillies.

The decision follows a period of struggle for the young player in Single-A, where he recorded only six hits and six walks in 42 plate appearances, including 10 strikeouts. The organization intends to provide Spangler with more at-bats in rookie-level ball to aid his development.
