Philadelphia Phillies defeat Los Angeles Angels on ninth-inning grand slam
The Philadelphia Phillies secured a 5-3 comeback victory against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium. The win was driven by pinch-hitter Edmundo Sosa, who hit the first grand slam of his career in the top of the ninth inning with two outs.
The Angels initially held a 3-0 lead following a first-inning rally that capitalized on Philadelphia starter Andrew Painter’s wildness. However, the Phillies mounted a comeback, highlighted by Sosa’s 404-foot home run off Sammy Peralta that cleared the center-field fence.
With this win, the Phillies have won 11 of their last 13 games and remain in contention for a National League Wild Card spot. The Angels, meanwhile, suffered their fifth consecutive loss.
