Philadelphia Phillies face major offseason roster and pitching decisions

The Philadelphia Phillies face a complex offseason following a disappointing 2026 season. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski is expected to lead significant roster and organizational changes, which may include selecting a new manager and addressing a struggling farm system.

A primary focus for the franchise is rebuilding a bullpen that recorded the worst ERA among playoff teams in 2026. The team specifically needs to upgrade its left-handed relief corps. Key reliever José Alvarado is set to become a free agent after posting a 5.86 ERA, and the team may look toward minor-league free agents or waiver claims to find depth.

On the offensive side, the team is looking toward young talent for growth. Center fielder Justin Crawford is highlighted as a player poised for a breakout in 2027. After a rookie season where he recorded a .264 batting average, 41 RBI, and 17 stolen bases, his development is seen as vital for the team's long-term outlook and payroll management.
