Philadelphia Phillies sign pitcher Nestor Cortes

The Philadelphia Phillies have reached an agreement with veteran left-handed pitcher Nestor Cortes on a Major League contract. The 31-year-old Cortes joins the team to provide bullpen and rotation depth.

Cortes previously spent several seasons as a rotation member for the New York Yankees. His recent seasons were hampered by injuries, including a left elbow flexor strain while with the Milwaukee Brewers and left biceps tendinitis during his time with the San Diego Padres. After undergoing surgery on his throwing arm last October, Cortes is now working his way back to full health.
