Philadelphia Phillies struggle with offensive efficiency and double plays

The Philadelphia Phillies are facing significant offensive challenges, characterized by an inability to convert runners on base into runs. Despite a substantial improvement in on-base percentage since the All-Star break—rising to .331 from a first-half rank of 28th—the team has struggled with efficiency. Since the break, the Phillies have led the majors in grounding into double plays, recording 30 such instances in less than a month.

Individual performances have also been a point of contention. Corner infielder Alec Bohm has struggled both offensively and defensively, posting a .649 OPS and a negative fielding run value. Proposed solutions to address these struggles include benching Bohm to allow for defensive and lineup shifts, such as moving Bryce Harper back to first base and utilizing outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.

While Kyle Schwarber remains a primary source of power with 35 home runs, the team's overall offensive production lacks consistency outside of home runs.
