Philadelphia police hunt masked suspect in Center City terror spree

Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect described as a Black male between 16 and 20 years old who allegedly terrorized at least six people in Center City on the morning of August 12, 2026. The individual wore a distinctive Chucky doll-style Halloween mask and was seen filming his actions on a cellphone.

During a roughly 20-minute spree, the suspect approached various pedestrians near City Hall, South Penn Square, and Market Street. In one notable incident, the man allegedly chased a 40-year-old female jogger, holding a phone in her face and repeatedly asking, “Are you ready to die?” The woman fled while screaming for help and sustained a leg injury during her escape.

Another witness, identified as Jameka, reported that the suspect confronted her, but she managed to defend herself by kicking him in the chest. Police Captain Jason Smith stated that the suspect may have implied he was armed, though no weapon was visible on surveillance footage. Authorities are investigating whether the incidents were part of an online social media stunt and are urging any other victims to come forward.
