Philadelphia woman arrested for blocking delivery robot in protest

Carolyn Marvin, a 78-year-old retired communications professor from the University of Pennsylvania, was arrested in Philadelphia's Center City for disorderly conduct. The arrest occurred after Marvin repeatedly blocked the path of an Avride delivery robot, an incident that was captured on video.

Marvin stated that her actions are a form of protest against the use of autonomous delivery machines, which she believes threaten the livelihoods of human delivery workers. She described the practice as a way to protest the “ruthless way that rich corporations are casting aside human workers.”

While Marvin argued her demonstrations are a protected First Amendment right, she was charged after refusing police orders to move from the robot's path. The incident highlights growing tensions regarding the integration of autonomous technology into public urban spaces and its potential impact on low-skilled employment.
