Philadelphia professor arrested for blocking Uber Eats delivery robot

Carolyn Marvin, a 78-year-old retired communications professor from the University of Pennsylvania, was arrested in Center City, Philadelphia, after blocking an Uber Eats delivery robot on a public sidewalk.

Marvin, who faces disorderly conduct charges, stated her actions were a protest against the replacement of human workers by automated systems. She expressed opposition to corporations using robotics to reduce labor costs at the expense of human delivery drivers. Marvin noted that she has intercepted these machines previously and intends to continue her demonstrations, citing her First Amendment right to protest.

The incident highlights growing urban tensions regarding the use of autonomous technology in shared public spaces and the economic impact of automation on the service sector. Marvin plans to challenge the charges in court.
