Rocky celebrates 50th anniversary with 4K re-release and biopic

The film 'Rocky' is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a worldwide theatrical re-release of a 4K-restored version from November 7 to November 11, 2026. Organized by Amazon MGM Studios, Park Circus, and Fathom Entertainment, the event will include an exclusive featurette providing behind-the-scenes footage and a preview of the upcoming biopic, 'I Play Rocky'.

The biopic, directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Anthony Ippolito as Sylvester Stallone, is scheduled for release on November 13, 2026. It explores the challenges Stallone faced while developing the original script.

In Philadelphia, the anniversary will be marked by 'Rocky Season,' featuring various community events such as the Joe Frazier Run/Walk, themed bus tours, and a custom visual projection at the 'Rocky Steps.' Sylvester Stallone has also released a memoir titled 'The Steps' to coincide with the celebrations. In recent interviews, the 80-year-old actor has reflected on the physical and emotional toll of his early career, including his struggles with body image and the personal sacrifices made during his rise to fame.
