Philadelphia Union defeat Chicago Fire 3-1 to extend unbeaten streak
The Philadelphia Union secured their eighth consecutive victory and extended their unbeaten league streak to 14 matches with a 3-1 win over Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field.
Despite Chicago taking a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute through a goal by Maren Haile-Selassie, the Fire were reduced to ten men following a red card for Jack Elliott. The Union capitalized on the man advantage in the second half. Milan Iloski equalized in the 49th minute, followed by two goals from Bruno Damiani in the 55th and 67th minutes.
Seventeen-year-old Cavan Sullivan set a league record for teenagers by recording 21 goal contributions this season, providing an assist during the match. Under interim coach Ryan Richter, the Union have achieved a 12-0-2 record since May. Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter criticized the officiating, describing the refereeing level as ‘shocking’ and ‘horrendous.’
