Philadelphia weather: Nor'easter threatens coastal flooding and erosion

Philadelphia and surrounding areas are experiencing a period of damp, chilly, and breezy weather. A slow-moving system of showers is moving through the region, affecting South Jersey and Delaware, with wind gusts reaching up to 25 mph in the city and suburbs.

While dry conditions are expected for Thursday and Friday with temperatures near 70 degrees, meteorologists are monitoring a potential weekend nor'easter. This system could impact New Jersey and Delaware beaches, with wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph along the immediate coast. Such conditions may lead to moderate to severe tidal flooding due to onshore flow, as well as significant beach erosion and dune scarping caused by offshore waves reaching 15 to 18 feet.
