Philadelphia woman arrested for blocking delivery robot
A Philadelphia woman, Carolyn Marvin, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after repeatedly blocking an Uber delivery robot in Center City. The incident occurred near the Reading Terminal Market on the 1200 block of Filbert Street.
Marvin stated that her actions were a form of protest against the use of autonomous delivery technology, which she believes is replacing human workers. She claimed her actions were a protected form of speech under the First Amendment and expressed an intention to continue protesting the machines to spark discussion regarding artificial intelligence and its impact on employment.
This was not Marvin’s first confrontation with such technology; she noted a similar incident involving a robot occurred in September. The use of autonomous delivery robots by companies like Uber and Amazon has become more frequent in urban areas, raising ongoing concerns about the future of traditional delivery jobs.
