PhilHealth provides automatic coverage for registered PWDs
Persons with disabilities (PWDs) registered in the Philippine Registry for Persons with Disabilities (PR-PWD) are automatically eligible for PhilHealth coverage, eliminating the requirement for a separate membership application. This automatic enrollment covers both in-patient and out-patient medical needs.
The PR-PWD is a centralized national database maintained by the Department of Health and the National Council on Disability Affairs. Under Republic Act No. 11228, which amended the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability, all qualified PWDs are entitled to mandatory coverage under the National Health Insurance Program.
While coverage is automatic for those in the registry, PhilHealth officials noted that benefits are still subject to existing medical packages, rules, and conditions; medical expenses are not necessarily fully covered. Unregistered PWDs are encouraged to visit their local social welfare offices to seek assistance with registration in the PR-PWD to activate these benefits.
