Philimonas Zannetidis calls for island-specific agricultural policy
During the 6th session of the National Dialogue for the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2028–2034 in Naxos, Philimonas Zannetidis, Vice Governor of the Primary Sector for the South Aegean, emphasized the need for a policy that addresses the unique challenges of Greek island producers.
Zannetidis highlighted several critical obstacles faced by island farmers and livestock breeders, including water scarcity, high production costs, increased transportation expenses, fragmented agricultural land, and small farm sizes. He argued that a uniform policy cannot effectively serve regions with such distinct geographical, economic, and productive characteristics.
The Vice Governor stressed the importance of securing decent incomes for producers, protecting the identity of local products, and supporting small-scale agricultural and livestock units. He also called for incentives to encourage younger generations to enter the primary sector through innovation and sustainable farming practices.
