Philip Colbert opens 'The Lost Gardens of Lobsteropolis' exhibition in Woking

Artist Philip Colbert has opened the exhibition "The Lost Gardens of Lobsteropolis" at the Lightbox Gallery in Woking. The show runs from 25 July to 1 November, with admission included in a £14.50 day pass. It features large‑scale paintings, immersive environments and the artist’s signature lobster persona, blending pop culture, technology and art‑historical references.

Colbert, born in Scotland in 1979 and now based in London, studied philosophy at the University of St Andrews. Influenced by early pop artists such as Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist, he combines Old Master compositions with contemporary symbols, creating vivid, humorous works that comment on how images circulate in modern visual life.
