Philip Colbert's 'Pop Mythology' exhibition opens at Pompeii archaeological park
British artist Philip Colbert inaugurated his "Pop Mythology" installation at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii on 27 July. The show features more than 30 monumental sculptures, many depicting the artist’s lobster motif, crafted from stainless‑steel and bronze. Organized by the cultural foundation Il Cigno Arte, the exhibition is presented as a dialogue between ancient ruins and contemporary art.
The works will also be displayed at nearby sites managed by the park, including Longola, Boscoreale, Oplontis, Villa San Marco, Villa Arianna and the Real Polverificio Borbonico. The Longola installation is positioned as a gesture of solidarity after a recent malicious fire damaged the area. Colbert described Pompeii as “the city of antiquity par excellence” and said the venue offers a powerful setting to explore the passage of time, identity and the limits of art.
