Philip Morris International raises Aurora, Colorado plant investment to $1.2 billion
Philip Morris International announced that its Aurora, Colorado manufacturing campus for Zyn nicotine pouches has been upgraded to a $1.2 billion investment through 2028, double the $600 million originally slated in 2024. The 780,000‑square‑foot, 148‑acre greenfield facility is the company's first U.S.‑based manufacturing complex and began full commercial production in July 2026.
The campus will produce Zyn nicotine pouches for domestic consumption and for export to markets across Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. It joins PMI’s existing nicotine‑product sites in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Wilson, North Carolina. The company projects an annual economic impact of about $550 million, with roughly 500 direct jobs and around 1,000 indirect jobs created. The investment follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s recent authorization of 20 Zyn varieties as less harmful than cigarettes, bolstering demand for smoke‑free products. “Aurora represents an important milestone for PMI U.S.,” said CEO Stacey Kennedy.
