Philip Morris International shifts focus to smoke-free technology

Philip Morris International (PMI) is undergoing a technological transformation to transition from traditional cigarettes to smoke-free products. During the Technovation Buenos Aires event, the company detailed its strategy to change consumer habits through three main categories: heated tobacco devices like IQOS, electronic cigarettes that produce aerosol from liquid, and nicotine pouches.

Developing these products has required significant engineering and scientific expertise, including the miniaturization of engine-based temperature regulation technology and complex software development. PMI has hired approximately 1,600 specialists, including scientists and engineers, to support this shift. While focusing on these alternatives, the company acknowledges that nicotine is addictive and that these products are not without risks, stating that the best health decision is to avoid tobacco and nicotine entirely.
