Philip Otele Near Move to Serie A's Lecce, Derby County Also Interested

Nigerian winger Philip Otele, 27, is on the verge of leaving Swiss club FC Basel for Italian Serie A side US Lecce. Basel, who signed him from Al Wahda last summer, have indicated they are willing to sell the player permanently after a short loan spell at Hamburger SV in the German Bundesliga, where he became the first Nigerian to score for the club. Lecce are reported to be close to finalising a deal worth roughly €5‑7 million, aiming to bolster their attack after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

Other clubs have also shown interest. English Championship side Derby County, along with Birmingham City and Frosinone, have been monitoring Otele, with Derby reportedly opening talks with Basel. The summer transfer window closes early next month, adding urgency to negotiations.
