Philip Rákay denies budget fraud allegations in film investigation
The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has launched an investigation into the use of state funding for the film ‘Most vagy soha!’, which has a budget of 7.022 billion HUF, making it the most expensive production in Hungarian film history.
Producer Philip Rákay has expressed strong indignation regarding the investigation, denying any involvement in budget fraud. In a radio interview, Rákay described the situation as a ‘government political circus reminiscent of the darkest dictatorships’ and stated his intention to take legal action against allegations made in the media.
Rákay clarified that his role was limited to creative producer and co-writer, focusing on artistic and content-related matters, while financial decisions and accounting were the responsibility of other professionals. He further noted that he holds no ownership or leadership position in the project company and that neither he nor his colleagues have been contacted by the NAV regarding the case.
