Philipp Amthor faces controversy over office beach chair

German politician Philipp Amthor, a member of the CDU and State Minister for Federal-State Cooperation, has faced public criticism following a scene in the ZDF documentary ‘Inside CDU’. The footage shows Amthor in his office with a beach chair (Strandkorb), which led to online mockery and accusations of decadence.

In response to the controversy, Amthor stated that he purchased the furniture himself and has since sent the beach chair back to his constituency on the island of Usedom.
