Philipp Treu impresses in Germany international debut

Philipp Treu made a successful international debut for the German national team during a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands. The 25-year-old Freiburg defender, selected by head coach Jürgen Klopp, played at right-back, a position that has been a long-standing challenge for the squad.

Treu received significant praise from teammate Jonathan Tah, who described his work rate along the touchline as “incredible” and “exactly what we need.” Klopp had previously highlighted Treu’s ability to consistently cover ground on the flank.

Following the match, Treu expressed gratitude to Klopp for recognizing his talent, noting that it was encouraging to see someone “open their eyes and look at Freiburg.” Despite his strong performance against opponents like Cody Gakpo, Treu faces competition for the position from players such as Josha Vagnoman.
