Philippe Brun seeks reinstatement in Socialist Party primary
Philippe Brun, a French deputy, is seeking reinstatement in the left-wing primary for the 2027 presidential election following his suspension from the Socialist Party (PS). The PS leadership issued a precautionary suspension following allegations from a female activist involving harassment, physical violence, and illegal family employment.
Brun has denied the allegations, stating that no criminal complaint exists and claiming the party leadership was misled. His legal team has announced intentions to file a complaint for “dénonciation calomnieuse” (slanderous denunciation), describing the accusations as vague and unsubstantiated. Brun is also currently suspended from the PS parliamentary group in the National Assembly.
The decision has drawn criticism from within the party. Candidate Jérôme Guedj described the exclusion as “extremely violent” and criticized the leadership for acting too hastily without a proper contradictory procedure. Guedj suggested the party showed a “culpable delay” in addressing the alerts, which had reportedly surfaced since the beginning of the summer.
