Santos FC nears signing of Philippe Coutinho with Neymar's assistance

Santos FC is finalizing the signing of midfielder Philippe Coutinho, who is expected to undergo medical examinations this Friday. The 34-year-old has been without a club since February, when he rescinded his contract with Vasco da Gama to focus on his mental health.

The deal was heavily influenced by Neymar, who reportedly acted as a key intermediary through his family's management company, NR Sports, to persuade Coutinho to join the project. Neymar has publicly expressed his enthusiasm for the move, aiming to reunite with his former national team teammate.

Coutinho is expected to sign a contract lasting until the end of the season or 2026, depending on the specific terms. Due to his seven-month period of inactivity, the club's coaching staff, led by Cuca, plans to implement a two-week physical reconditioning period to ensure he reaches match fitness. His arrival follows other recent reinforcements for Santos, including Arthur, Rodinei, Lima, and Everton Cebolinha.
