Philippe Decouflé brings Murakami adaptation to Théâtre du Châtelet
The Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris is hosting ‘La Fin des temps’ from October 16 to 21, 2026. This multidisciplinary production, directed and choreographed by Philippe Decouflé, is a stage adaptation of the novel by Japanese author Haruki Murakami.
The performance blends dance, theater, and music, drawing inspiration from musical theater and Japanese Kabuki. It explores a dystopian and dreamlike narrative involving two parallel worlds: a futuristic, underground Tokyo and a surreal space where memory and dreams blur. The production follows the story of a man navigating life after the loss of a great love.
Initiated by Japanese producer Miyako Kanamori, the production was originally created in Tokyo in January 2026 and has since traveled to London before arriving in Paris. The show is performed in Japanese with subtitles available in French and English. The cast features Japanese actors and dancers, including Tatsuya Fujiwara, Misato Morita, and Shuntaro Miyao.
