Philippe Geluck announces new Cat Museum in Ixelles

Belgian cartoonist Philippe Geluck has announced the acquisition of the former Demeuldre-Coché porcelain manufacture in Ixelles to house his new museum, titled ‘Le Musée du Chat et de l’Art rigolo’. The project follows the abandonment of a previous site in Mont-des-Arts due to financial constraints and unforeseen costs.

The museum will occupy approximately 2,300 square meters of the 19th-century heritage building. The collection is expected to feature 60 years of Geluck’s personal archives, including sketches, paintings, sculptures, and drawings, as well as works from other humorist artists such as Sempé, Siné, and Kroll. The programming aims to explore the history of cats from ancient Egypt to the internet era.

Renovations are expected to take between one and two years, with an estimated opening date in 2028. The project is funded by private investment, estimated at approximately two million euros, which is significantly lower than the cost of the initial proposal.
