Philippine Airlines orders nine additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft
Philippine Airlines has finalized agreements with Airbus and Rolls-Royce to acquire nine additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. This deal brings the carrier’s total commitment for this aircraft type to 18 units. The agreement also includes purchase rights for five more A350-1000s and Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, as well as inclusion in the Rolls-Royce TotalCare maintenance program.
The expansion is part of a long-haul fleet modernization program intended to increase capacity and support international network growth, particularly on transpacific routes to North America. Philippine Airlines is currently the only airline in Southeast Asia operating the A350-1000, using the widebody jets for nonstop service to the United States and Canada.
Chairman and President Lucio C. Tan III stated that the aircraft provides better fuel efficiency and an improved passenger experience. The A350-1000 configuration features 382 seats across three classes: 42 Business Class suites, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 316 Economy Class seats.
