Philippine authorities conduct drug testing for public transport workers
Government agencies in the Philippines have conducted drug testing operations targeting public transport workers to ensure commuter safety. In La Union, an inter-agency operation known as Oplan Harabas 2026 resulted in one jeepney driver testing positive during initial screenings in San Fernando City. The driver has been referred to a Department of Health treatment and rehabilitation center for examination, with urine specimens undergoing confirmatory testing.
In Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that two bus drivers tested positive for illegal drugs during random inspections at major terminals ahead of the Undas travel rush. Testing conducted at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and various terminals in Cubao involved 118 drivers. The drivers who tested positive have been temporarily prohibited from driving pending confirmatory results using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
