Philippine cities implement and clarify 911 emergency hotline protocols

Local governments in the Philippines are managing the implementation and communication of the 911 emergency hotline system. In Bacolod City, Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is testing a localized 911 system. Once officially launched, local operators will directly answer calls originating from the city to improve response times and eliminate language barriers, addressing previous concerns regarding coordination when calls were handled by operators in other areas.

Meanwhile, the Davao City government has issued a warning regarding false information circulating online. An advisory falsely claiming that residents must dial ‘082-911’ during emergencies has been debunked. City officials clarified that the official emergency number remains 911 without the need for an area code. This follows previous technical challenges in Davao where calls were occasionally misrouted to Manila or other regions, causing delays in emergency response.
