Philippine coffee sectors receive support through training and sustainability initiatives

Agricultural initiatives in the Philippines are focusing on strengthening the coffee sector through skill development and stakeholder collaboration. In Basilan, the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) conducted a three-day workshop for 20 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The training focused on green grading, roasting, cupping, and evaluation to help local producers enter the specialty coffee value chain and increase market value.

In Kalinga, the Second Kalinga Invitational Coffee Quality and Sustainable Congress was held at Kalinga State University. Vice Governor Dave Q. Odiem emphasized the importance of collective responsibility among farmers, processors, and government agencies to ensure coffee quality and sustainability. The provincial government pledged to address challenges such as unpredictable weather, rising production costs, and limited market access through partnerships with national agencies and the private sector.
