Philippine junior fencers target World and Asian championships
The Philippine junior fencing team is targeting qualification for the World and Asian Junior and Cadet Championships following a successful performance at the Southeast Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Junior and Cadet Championship in Malaysia. The team secured a total of 25 medals, including five golds, seven silvers, and 13 bronzes.
Oscar Del Castillo led the delegation, winning the men’s U17 cadet epee gold and the U21 junior epee silver. Other medalists include Willa Galvez, who earned bronze in the junior women’s foil, and Hagia Del Castillo, who took silver in the women’s cadet foil. Additional bronze medals were awarded to Yuna Canlas, Victoria Ebdane, Papina Torre, Jethro Chan, and Don Reyzel Geronimo.
Athletes noted that the ranking points earned at the SEAFF tournament are critical for their overall standings, which will be combined with points from the Asian Cadet Cup and the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) Junior and Cadet tournament. The final leg of the PFA domestic ranking series is scheduled for August 29–30 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
