Philippine Navy and Coast Guard Deploy to RIMPAC 2026 in Hawaii
The Philippines sent the navy frigate BRP Miguel Malvar and the coast‑guard offshore patrol vessel BRP Gabriela Silang to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026 exercise, scheduled for 24 June – 31 July around Pearl Harbor, Hawai‘i. The Philippine contingent was welcomed by Consul General Arman Talbo and members of the Filipino community in Honolulu, underscoring the 80‑year anniversary of Philippines‑U.S. diplomatic relations and the growing maritime capabilities of Manila.
Ahead of the main exercise, BRP Gabriela Silang made a port call in Guam from 9 – 13 June, where it conducted joint sail training and several on‑shore activities with U.S. Coast Guard vessels, including USCGC Frederick Hatch and USCGC Myrtle Hazard. The engagements featured patrol drills, a mock security boarding, small‑boat demonstrations, and informal events such as basketball and karaoke, reinforcing interoperability under the Mutual Defense Treaty and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.
