Philippine students win four medals at International AI Olympiad

Four Filipino high school students achieved a 100% medal rate during the Philippines' debut at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) held in Astana, Kazakhstan. Competing against 466 participants from 108 countries, the delegation secured one silver and three bronze medals.

Theo Lorenzo T. Bustamante of Philippine Science High School – CALABARZON Region Campus earned a silver medal, ranking 80th overall and placing in the top 17% of competitors. Teammates Ellison Matthew S. Ang, Juan Mateo J. Desuasido, and Jhareign S. Solidum each received bronze medals.

The delegation was prepared through a 10-month training program managed by IOAI PH, an initiative of the Ateneo Business Insights Laboratory for Development (BUILD) under Ateneo de Manila University. The training focused on machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and audio processing. The competition was officially opened by Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
