Philippine Taekwondo Association celebrates 50th anniversary

The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of sport development and athlete training in the Philippines. During a golden anniversary gala dinner at Okada Manila, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recognized the organization’s role in producing international competitors and fostering discipline, integrity, and perseverance among Filipino youth.

As part of the celebration, the PTA conferred an honorary 9th Dan on President Marcos Jr. during a Kukkiwon Honorary Conferment Ceremony. Other officials, including Secretary of National Defense Gibo Teodoro and Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio, were each conferred the 5th Dan.

Since its founding in 1976, the PTA has expanded its reach through grassroots programs and talent identification initiatives. The association currently supports more than one million practitioners nationwide and conducts over 100 competitions annually to bring the sport to various communities.
