Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte attacks ICC over father Rodrigo Duterte's trial

Vice President Sara Duterte accused the International Criminal Court (ICC) of being a "lapdog" of the Marcos administration during a rally outside the ICC headquarters in The Hague. The ICC replied that it operates independently and impartially under the Rome Statute, noting it holds multiple cases beyond the Duterte matter.

Duterte also pleaded with the court to accelerate the trial of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who has been in ICC detention for about 16 months. She warned that the 81‑year‑old former leader may not survive a prolonged process, citing his current health issues and a trial slated for November. The vice president framed the detention as an injustice and urged the court to consider his age and the possibility of death in custody.
