Philippines advances science and AI through scholarships and EU partnership
The Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is advancing national scientific capabilities through both human resource development and international collaboration. The DOST-Science Education Institute is actively supporting the next generation of Filipino scientists, engineers, and innovators via an undergraduate scholarship program. This initiative provides comprehensive financial assistance, including tuition, living allowances, and research dissemination grants to help scholars present findings at local and international conferences.
Simultaneously, the DOST is strengthening ties with the European Union (EU) to foster cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation. During a recent mission to local AI hubs, officials discussed opportunities in AI infrastructure, digital transformation, and industry collaboration. DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. emphasized that the partnership aims to leverage European expertise in human-centric AI alongside the Philippines’ growing digital economy to address priorities such as climate action, health, agriculture, and education.
