Philippines and Nigeria seek stronger bilateral ties

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nigeria to the Philippines, at Malacañang Palace on Tuesday. During the ceremony, Ambassador Ibas presented his Letter of Credence to the President.

President Marcos Jr. expressed optimism regarding the expansion of bilateral cooperation, specifically highlighting potential growth in energy security, trade, investment, and security. The meeting occurs as the two nations approach the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, which were established on August 1, 1962.

Ambassador Ibas pledged to work toward enhancing the friendly relations between the two countries. The ceremony was attended by several officials, including Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and DFA Assistant Secretary Germinia Aguilar-Usudan.
