Philippines and South Korea forum addresses AI music copyright challenges

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency (KCOPA) convened at the 2026 Philippines-Korea Copyright Forum to address the challenges posed by AI-generated music in the digital era.

Participants emphasized the need for robust digital rights management and improved metadata governance to protect the commercial interests of songwriters, performers, and broadcasters. Officials noted that as AI-assisted and human-created works increasingly flood streaming platforms, effective data stewardship is essential to prevent royalty hijacking, fraud, and unreliable metadata that could divert revenue from legitimate creators.

South Korea’s development of an integrated music rights database and centralized data collection was highlighted as a potential model for strengthening rights-information systems and ensuring fair remuneration within the creative ecosystem.
