Philippines and Timor‑Leste Expand Sports Cooperation with Mindanao Youth Games

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) invited Timor‑Leste to take part in the 2027 Tour of Luzon and the inaugural Mindanao Youth Games in Lanao del Norte. PSC Chair John Patrick “Pato” Gregorio announced the invitation during a meeting with Timor‑Leste Ambassador Marciano Octavio Garcia Da Silva, emphasizing the role of sport in building bridges, peace and development.

The Mindanao Youth Games, scheduled for 17‑21 March 2027, will feature at least 12 sports for athletes aged 8‑18 and will be hosted at the 66‑hectare Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, which includes a FIFA‑certified football pitch, an Olympic‑size pool and a 5,000‑seat gymnasium. The PSC is also exploring a memorandum of understanding with Timor‑Leste covering coaching exchanges, grassroots programs and sports tourism, aiming to boost regional economies and strengthen ASEAN ties.
