Philippines authorities seize millions in contraband across Mindanao

Authorities in the Philippines have conducted several operations resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of contraband in the Mindanao region.

In Sarangani Province, police intercepted a shipment of suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at approximately ₱360,000. The operation took place on September 5, 2026, in Barangay Kanalo, Maasim, after intelligence indicated a small motorized boat was being used to transport the goods. One individual was arrested during the seizure of eight cases of ‘GAJAH BARU’ cigarettes.

Separately, the Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) reported the confiscation of nearly ₱100 million worth of illegal goods during three maritime operations conducted between August 28 and September 3, 2026. The haul included undocumented diesel fuel valued at over ₱72 million, smuggled foreign-brand cigarettes and a motor vessel worth approximately ₱27 million, and illegally transported Lauan lumber. All seized items have been turned over to the Bureau of Customs and other relevant agencies for legal disposition.
