Philippines Becomes China's Largest Overseas Solar Panel Market

In 2026 the Philippines emerged as the biggest single overseas destination for Chinese solar‑panel exports, overtaking markets such as Pakistan. Trade data show that Chinese shipments to the archipelago more than doubled year‑on‑year in the first five months, with a 262 % surge in March alone. Philippine importers have already spent over US$500 million on Chinese photovoltaic modules this year.

Leading Chinese manufacturers, notably Jinko Solar, supplied nearly 1 GW of panels in the first half of 2026, capturing roughly 25 % of the local market. High‑efficiency N‑type modules, well suited to the Philippines’ hot climate, have driven up average selling prices and margins for exporters. The spike in demand is linked to sharply rising electricity tariffs in the Philippines and broader regional energy price pressure caused by the Middle‑East conflict, prompting households and businesses to shift toward renewable sources. Chinese solar panels, which constitute about 80 % of global supply, are being embraced as a low‑cost, quickly deployable solution for the country’s energy security and climate goals.
