Philippines celebrates historic PISA 2025 assessment gains

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Education Secretary Sonny Angara led a national recognition ceremony to honor the educators, students, and partners responsible for the Philippines’ improved performance in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The country recorded significant gains compared to the 2022 cycle, including a 20-point increase in Reading, 17 points in Science, and 16 points in Mathematics. The Philippines was noted as the world’s fastest-improving nation in Reading performance, with a higher percentage of learners reaching baseline proficiency levels across all three assessed domains.

President Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration's commitment to education through various initiatives, such as the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program and the revised K-10 curriculum. Secretary Angara attributed the breakthrough to the solidarity of local communities and the administration's focus on education reform.
