Philippines competes for U.S. Pax Silica high-tech project

The Philippines is facing competition from regional neighbors such as Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia to secure the Pax Silica project, a high-tech initiative linked to U.S. supply chain diversification. Jose Manuel Romualdez, the Philippine Ambassador to the United States, warned that the country must not miss this opportunity, noting that other Asian nations are actively vying to host the hub.

Pax Silica is envisioned as a global gateway for artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and essential minerals. The Philippine government has proposed developing a 1,619-hectare industrial center in New Clark City to host AI data centers, advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities, and critical mineral processing plants. Currently, the Philippines and Singapore are the two Southeast Asian nations participating in the initiative.
