Philippines declares 10 new National Artists

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared 10 new National Artists of the Philippines under Proclamation No. 1414. The honorees represent a diverse range of disciplines, including architecture, dance, fashion design, film, literature, music, theater, and visual arts.

The group includes four posthumous recipients. Notable honorees include the late architect Gabriel “Gabby” Formoso, recognized for his influential modern and brutalist designs in Manila, and Rafael “Nonoy” Froilan for his contributions to dance. Other recipients include Maria Beatriz “Patis” Tesoro for Design/Fashion, Armando “Bing” Lao for Film and Broadcast Arts, Gregorio C. Brillantes and Nicanor G. Tiongson for Literature, Alfredo S. Buenaventura for Music, Teodoro L. Hilado for Theater, and Imelda Cajipe-Endaya and Nunelucio M. Alvarado for the Visual Arts.
