Philippines digital payment searches surge amid QR code unification
Search interest in accepting digital payments has risen sharply across provincial regions of the Philippines, with Google Trends data showing increases of 177% to 238% compared with 2022 levels. The growth is most pronounced in Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao and the Davao Region, while Metro Manila’s rise is more modest.
At the same time, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Philippine Payments Management, Inc. have launched “One,” a single QR‑code standard that works across banks and e‑wallets such as GCash and Maya. The unified QR system is intended to simplify checkout, reduce errors and boost security, supporting a broader move toward a cash‑less economy. PayMongo reports an 89% rise in completed transactions and a 93% increase in its merchant base in the first half of 2026, reflecting the accelerating adoption of QR and online payment channels.
The combined trends suggest that more Filipino merchants are shifting to digital and QR‑based payments, while newer e‑commerce platforms like TikTok Shop and Temu are gaining search share over traditional marketplaces.
