Philippines DMW chief calls for stronger maritime protections

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac has called for the strengthening of Philippine maritime systems to better protect and empower Filipino seafarers. Speaking at the Philippine Maritime Convention 2026, Cacdac emphasized that maritime excellence must be paired with safe and secure working conditions.

To support the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers, the DMW aims to focus on ethical recruitment, quality education, and improved labor justice. The Secretary stressed the importance of international cooperation to ensure the Philippines remains a leading supplier of highly skilled maritime talent while maintaining global standards.
