Philippines emerges as world’s fastest-growing retreat destination

The Philippines has become the world’s fastest-growing retreat destination according to the inaugural State of Retreats report by BookRetreats. Interest in the country surged 323 percent year-on-year, surpassing other growing destinations such as Australia and Hungary.

The country also ranked 10th globally for the fastest-growing interest in yoga retreats, seeing a 58 percent increase. This growth is attributed to the popularity of the nation’s island sanctuaries and ecotourism sites.

Notable ecotourism locations include the Masungi Georeserve in Rizal, known for its limestone structures and karst landscape; the Biri Larosa Protected Landscape and Seascape in Northern Samar, featuring natural rock formations and coral reefs; and the UNESCO World Heritage rice terraces in Batad, Ifugao.
