Philippines ERC outlines regulatory vision at WCO Summit
Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson Francis Saturnino Juan has called on electricity market participants to adopt proactive risk management to address uncertainties in a power market reliant on imported fuel and interconnected grids. Speaking at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) Compliance Officers Summit, Juan emphasized that transparency, accountability, and a strong culture of compliance are essential for sector reform.
Key regulatory initiatives highlighted include the rollout of the 2026 Philippine Grid Code to enhance grid operations and power plant reliability standards. Additionally, the Energy Virtual One-Stop Shop (EVOSS) is being utilized to streamline permit processing times within the energy sector.
The summit also featured the 2026 Compliance Awards, recognizing top performers in metering, generation, and dispatch. Notable winners included Misamis Oriental I Rural Electric Service Cooperative in the wholesale metering category, and Guimaras Wind Corporation’s San Lorenzo Wind Power Plant and Jobin-SQM Inc.’s Sta. Rita Solar Power Plant for their respective renewable energy categories.
