Philippines expands stablecoin-based payment and remittance pilots
Coins.ph, the Philippines' largest digital‑asset exchange, has rolled out a suite of enterprise‑focused payment, settlement and trading tools. The platform offers QRPh crypto and fiat payments, WebPay integrations, real‑time batch disbursements to over 120 banks and e‑wallets, and a stablecoin‑enabled “Move” service that can settle domestic transfers in minutes instead of days.
Separately, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has begun a pilot using stablecoin settlement rails for cross‑border remittances. In partnership with the global clearinghouse Meridian and under the supervision of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the test will first serve freelancers, virtual assistants and overseas Filipino workers, converting inbound stablecoin payments into Philippine pesos deposited directly into BPI accounts. The aim is to speed up payouts and lower fees for the roughly $40 billion in annual remittances.
Both initiatives are part of a broader push to integrate blockchain‑based finance into the Philippine economy ahead of the ASEAN summit, targeting faster, cheaper and more secure payment flows for businesses and workers alike.
