Philippines joins Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure

The Philippines has officially joined the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), becoming the organization’s 71st member and the second Southeast Asian nation to do so. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formalized the membership during a meeting with CDRI Director-General Amit Prothi in New Delhi, India.

Through this partnership, the Philippines aims to shift its national strategy from post-disaster recovery to proactive resilience-building. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been designated as the official representative agency. The coalition is expected to provide the Philippines with technical expertise and best practices for designing climate-resilient roads, bridges, and ports.

Additionally, membership is intended to facilitate access to specialized project financing for disaster-proof infrastructure. This move comes as the administration seeks to improve flood control and mitigation efforts in response to increasingly severe weather events driven by climate change.
